8 THINGS TO DO AT HOME

For the most part, the majority of the world is or has been self-isolated – which can end up very boring after a few days. Other than myself, because I am still going to work every day until further notice. We are all adjusting to new ways of life for the next few weeks which can be extremely difficult for ones who are always busy bee’s. With that being said, there’s a time and place to grieve, but sometimes our minds just need a break to preoccupy our minds with anything but the coronavirus. To help you keep busy and nurture your mental health, here are eight ways to help you pass this time of self-quarantine and social distancing.

  + WATCH HAPPY, UPLIFTING TV

I have been doing this more than I would like to admit, and I should probably make less screen time for myself – but it has been such a good distraction from all the media. Some of my favorite shows are Friends (Netflix this is for you), Dave, The Office, and anything on Disney Plus. Recently, I just finished Justin Bieber: Seasons which I would recommend as well. This is time to focus on all the positivies rather than the negatives. Good is coming to ones who are patient.

+ HAVE VIRTUAL COFFEE DATES

Something I have done recently with my friends in the morning, or even my coworkers is to slowly sip a cup of joe, and talk about the positives in life this week. Just as you would meet a friend at Starbucks, ask them to grab virtual coffee over FaceTime or Skype. Even for the introverts, everyone needs time with others to build community and relationships.

+ DO VIRTUAL YOGA

This is something I do on a regular basis, but even more now. My friend in Michigan, Brooke – always posts her daily workouts on her Instagram stories. She is very motivating, easy to follow along with, and always stays positive. Definitely recommend following her team: @brookejukkala

+ TAKE A WALK

This is a good time to get some fresh air in florida, and clear your mind for a few minutes. The weather has been beautiful, hence the fact everyone is at the beach.

+ SHOP ONLINE

A lot of local businesses are struggling right now, so we should do our best as humans to support them during this time (and I’m not talking about going to target for toilet paper). Start shopping at local boutiques that are still open, and shopping online as well. You can count me in 100%

+ GET CRAFTY

Keeping our hands busy and our minds creative during this time is one of the most important things for us to not panic about the current situation around the world. Personally, I have always been a creative and crafty person, so for me this comes naturally – but maybe not so much for others. So, maybe you want to doodle out your feelings or perhaps make some gifts for friends and family. This is a great activity for anyone, and any age.

+ DO A PUZZLE OR PLAY GAMES

As a kid, you could find me 98% of my time at my grandma’s house helping her complete a puzzle. This is still one of my favorite things to do to pass time. I enjoy strategy and keeping my brain moving thorughout the day. Right now, it is important to keep our minds occupied as much as we can - so the world doesn’t go crazy.

+ PAMPER YOURSELF

When our brains are dominated by fear, self-care is the last thing on our mind; survival is what’s consuming us. But the truth is our bodies and minds need grace and kindness in this current state that we live in. Pull out a bottle of nail polish and give yourself a mani-pedi. Buy or make a face mask to give your pores some TLC.
