Media Analysis: Catholic Charities
For over 100 years, Catholic Charities, USA has a mission that helps people who are in need, to advocate for justice in social structures, decline poverty, reach out to families and empower communities. They reach out to people at a national and community level. Catholic Charities holds an emergency shelter for children removed from homes due to abuse or exposure to drugs. The Catholic Charities also provide disaster relief from hurricanes and floods. Not only this, but they have a mission to decline poverty.
The largest negative perception that other people have when they think of Catholic Charities is that it is only focused on the Catholic Community, which is not true. The public has perceived this simply because of the name “Catholic.” The organization was started by the Catholic Ministries but does not mean they only serve the Catholic faith. These organizations are for everyone in need. They are known to help millions of people a year regardless of their religion, social or economic backgrounds.
I would like to start a marketing strategy first to design a pamphlet describing the various entities organized within Catholic Charities such as disaster relief, children’s services and the services provided to the elderly and poverty stricken. Also, this pamphlet would advertise the emergency homes Catholic Charities has, for everyone. I would like to set up a booth at various locations such as community centers or grocery stores to hand out the pamphlets and speak with people to introduce Catholic Charities to the public. While talking to people, I plan to let them know the services provided are not strictly available to those of the Catholic faith. Another strategy I would like to try is to ask non-Catholic churches to advertise in their weekly bulletin. This way, I will reach other denominations with the information I am trying to get out about the services provided. Another way to reach the public about Catholic Charities is to interview people who have received services and make a television commercial with real testimonies. The commercial will also include footage from Catholic Charities at work in a disaster relief effort such as one of the recent hurricanes with which the charity has assisted. Through these strategies, I will be able to deliver the message that Catholic Charities does not just provide assistance to people in the Catholic religion.
