My MCBS Story

Before I started the MCBS program I was a student at the University of Tennessee. As a journalist, I started to become very disappointed with what I was offered. Their criteria didn’t meet my goals or dreams. I always thought I wanted to stay in Tennessee, and work locally. Since I grew up in this town, everybody knew everybody and I was comfortable. But then, my last semester I experienced the death of my father due to his illness. Throughout this struggle, it still didn’t stop me, and my dreams started expanding. I continued back in school the following week. There was something inside of me that wanted to become bigger, and better. Because of this, during a Florida visit this past summer, I was introduced to Full Sail University. As my brother lived in Winter Park and attended Full Sail as well, I felt like I would be comfortable. During my first visit, I was in shock. I knew I was where I needed to be. Even though it wasn’t home, I knew this is where dreams come true. It was like Disney World, but even better. Until finally, I began the process to move to Florida and become a student at Full Sail where I know my education and experience will take me to heights in my career that I could not reach otherwise, and ever since I decided to pursue this passion, I’ve never been happier.

The video by Stacey Williams taught me a couple things. The first one is not to be afraid to tell personal things that have affected you. Not only to make you a better person, but so other people know where you come from and how you got to where you are. Everyone loves a good story, so actually tell something that has happened instead of making something up that nobody is either going to listen to, or believe. It is better to introduce yourself as professional, but it is also important to keep it in the misted of a personal level too. Relating to other people is something our day to day lives consists of. So, why not relate within a professional level as well. Using these mixture of techniques, I found that it was very easy to tell a story of my own.
